The NBA Panel covered the Big 5 Classic at Wells Fargo Center. The Big 5 clashed on Broad street in Philadelphia as a triple header was held, and a champion was crowned.
The event began with consolation game number 2 which featured the Drexel Dragons vs Villanova Wildcats. Drexel defeated Villanova 57-55 in a contest that came down to the last possession. Defense was on display all game for the Dragons as they held the Wildcats to 32 percent shooting. The Dragons were led in scoring by Amari Williams who finished with 12 PTS.
Consolation game 1 put the University of Pennsylvania vs La Salle Explorers. The 2nd game of the day also did not disappoint as LaSalle beat Penn on a buzzer beater in overtime by Khalil Brantley who finished with 24 PTS. Both teams battled as the crowd was on its feel throughout the contest. With the win La Salle secured 3rd place in the Big 5 Classic
The 3rd and final event of the historic day was the championship game featuring the Temple Owls vs Saint Joseph’s Hawks. Saint Joseph’s put together a complete game to defeat the Owls 74-65 with Rasheer Flemming leading the way with 22 PTS. With the win Saint Joseph’s secured their 1st Big 5 title since 2012.
Wells Fargo did an excellent job putting together, and executing the inaugural Big 5 Classic. The entire day was a success, and the fans were more than entertained throughout the day.
